50 wines to try before you die! - Our Thirty Seventh wine - Organic Primitivo, Gioia del Colle, Fatalone, Apulia 2012

Friday 11th November 2016

This intense Primitivo shows berry fruits and sour cherries and plum with balsamic and spicy overtones and is great with roasts or spicy fish. Its affinity with fish, it is said, is due to the marine origin of the rocky land where the vineyards are located. Completely organic.

50 wines to try before you die! - Our Thirty Sixth wine - Gevrey Chambertin, Domaine Georges Lignier et Fils 2013

Friday 4th November 2016

The 2013 Lignier Gevrey has a deep colour, with an intense nose, of blackcurrant and small red and black fruits. When ageing, we get some animal and musky aromas. Powerful and rich in the mouth, reflecting the high average age of the vines, it presents a delicious equilibrium with balanced fruit, acidity and tannins. A wonderfully expressive wine.

50 wines to try before you die! - Our Thirty Fifth wine - Gewurztraminer Classic, Hugel 2013

Tuesday 25th October 2016

The 2013 vintage is superb giving a fine, well-balanced wine with great depth. This is a highly perfumed wine, with tropical fruit and lychee overtones plus cardamon spice, saffron and liquorice. Perfect as an aperitif, with lobster, Chinese or spicy food or with pork, pheasant or partridge. One of our all time favourite nemeses.

50 wines to try before you die! - Our Thirty Fourth wine - Gigondas, Domaine des Bosquets, Rhone 2014

Friday 14th October 2016

Complex nose of sweet blackberries, red plums, roasted provençal herbs and macerated cherries. In the mouth, a medium to full bodied wine, creamy, with good structure, beautiful tannins and a clean finish. This appellation lies only 15km from the world renowned vineyards of Chateauneuf du Pape and is a powerful alternative at two thirds of the price.
