Blaufrankisch Folligberg, Leberl, Burgenland, Austria 2015 75cl

Leberl’s grape varietal has MittelEuropa origins and is named after the Napoleonic army's favourite red wine. This lovely gutsy red wine is made close to the Hungarian border and is very aromatic with flavours of dark berries and spice. An intense prune and beefy body, great structure, harmonious and long. Good with lamb, pork and game.

The vague pattern to these names indicate pre-medieval Frankish origins. Really shining when yields are kept low, it can make good quality, structured wines with high levels of acidity and tannin, and zesty red fruit flavours.
