Gigondas is one of our favourite appellations: a powerful, Rhone wine that always delivers. Dating back to 1376, Domaine des Bosquets now has 26 hectares of vines (up to 75 years old) lying directly under the imposing 350-metres-high rock formation of the Dentelles that is visible from almost all of the Southern Rhône. The resulting wines have freshness and balance from the high altitude as well as a powerful fruit character from the warm Southern sun. Made from a blend of 75% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 3% Mourvedre and 2% Cinsault, its power is underlined by its 15% alcohol content. Complex nose of sweet blackberries, red plums, roasted provençal herbs and macerated cherries. In the mouth, a medium to full bodied wine, creamy, with good structure, beautiful tannins and a clean finish. This appellation lies only 15km from the world renowned vineyards of Chateauneuf du Pape and is a powerful alternative at two thirds of the price. Fantastic with roasts and steaks.

Syrah

The Rhône wine region in Southern France is situated in the Rhône river valley and is generally divided into two sub-regions with distinct vinicultural traditions, the Northern Rhône (referred to in French as Rhône septentrional) and the Southern Rhône (in French Rhône méridional). The northern sub-region produces red wines from the Syrah grape, sometimes blended with white wine grapes, and white wines from Marsanne, Roussane and Viognier grapes. The southern sub-region depends on the specific AOC rules, grapes blended into southern Rhône reds may include Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault. White wines from the southern Rhône sub-region are blends of several wine grapes. These may include Viognier, Ugni Blanc, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, and Clairette.
