A deep ruby-red colour, this Pinot Noir releases subtle notes of red fruit such as sour cherries, rosehip, and wild strawberries, accompanied by notes of forest floor, dampness, and wet earth. Toasted notes from the barrel ageing display a smoky side along with pencil lead, which mingle with its slight minerality. The palate surprises with crisp acidity, which lends depth and juiciness to the wine. Good structure and smooth, friendly tannins that work well with the acidity to produce a lengthy, persistent finish

More Information

This 1047-hectare estate of rolling hills was planted in 2005 and is just 12 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean. Owing to its proximity to the sea, temperatures in Chilhué are slightly cooler than in the Casablanca Valley, with the average temperature in the warmest month of the year being only 18.8¡C/65.8¡F. The vines are planted at an altitude of 100 to 200 meters above sea level. The clay-loam soil is 40 cm deep, with a stratum of clay and metamorphic slate below. The above-mentioned conditions control the vigour of this red variety to produce a balanced vineyard. Our Pinot Noir consists mainly of clones 777 and 115, along with clones 9 and 16.

Pinot Noir

Champagne and Burgundy are the best regions for Pinot Noir followed by New Zealand and Oregon. California, South Africa and Australia are making some great Pinot Noirs as well not forgetting Canada. Pinot Noir makes a noticeably pale wine, but has intense perfume and flavour. When young, its aromas range from freshly crushed raspberries or strawberries to plum jam. With age, Pinot Noir often shows violets, game or truffles.
