More Information

The most important grape variety in Argentina, Malbec grown there produces wines with some of the flavour characteristics of Malbec from Bordeaux, where it was once widely planted. Its sensitivity to cool, damp conditions has now made it relatively rare in Bordeaux but it is still the key variety in Cahors where as its synonym Cot, it is required to constitute a minimum of 70% of the blend. In both Cahors and Argentina, particularly Mendoza, it produces wine which are lush and ripe, very intensely coloured and ranging in flavour from smoky and plummy to ripe blackberries and blackcurrants.
