Vegetarian and Vegan Wines
No animal products have been used to make these wines. Look for the (V) 'Vegetarian' and (VG) 'Vegan' symbols on our product listings.
Wine consumers expect their wines to be filtered and clear. Wine makers use animal-derived products to clarify and filter wine. The process is called 'fining' adding an agent of milk protein, egg whites, gelatin and fish bladder protein removing proteins, yeast, and other organic matter. An alternative to animal products, benonite, a clay mineral, is used to clarify wine. Some wine producers make unfiltered wines for mostly heavy reds or the timely process of leaving the sediment to settle naturally.
