Fiano di Avellino DOCG Pietramara, I Favati, Campania 2017 75cl

Fiano is the name of one of Campania’s many indigenous grapes and is grown almost exclusively around the Southern Italian town of Avellino. From near extinction in the 1940s, its popularity has recently soared. The I Frati winery is family-owned and is nestled in the lands around Naples and Vesuvius; vines are planted in volcanic soil, imparting a characteristic minerality to the grapes, which gives them a lovely structure. White flowers, almonds and peaches on the nose. Good acidity and structure in the mouth and a long finish. A great white wine and a deserved Eton Vintners best-seller.

Fiano
This is an interesting variety grown in southern Italy and responsible for Fiano di Avellino from Campania. With an attractive texture, sometimes with a silky, waxy character, it is less aromatic than Greco di Tufo but with more subtle aromas. It is also planted in Puglia and in the McLaren Vale in South Australia.
