50 Wines to try before you die! - Forty Ninth wine - Aconcagua Costa Chardonnay, Errazuriz, Aconcagua Valley 2014 75cl

Thursday 29th December 2016

The 2014 vintage provided low yields, as grape ripening was very slow, which enabled the grapes to retain a zesty freshness. Bright silver-yellow colour, with a complex nose of vanilla, honeysuckle and quince. Very mineral on the palate, Chablis-like, though with vanilla and tropical fruit. A fresh and sleek wine, great with pasta, oysters, razor clams and creamy cheeses.

50 Wines to try before you die! - Forty Eighth wine - D'Oliveiras Madeira, Colheita Boal 1993

Tuesday 27th December 2016

Fortified, as its sister Port is, it bears no resemblance to port wine whatsoever but is unique, delicious, nutty and ginger and can be either sweet or dry. At Eton Vintners, we have many types but this D'Oliveiras Boal is semi-sweet and has a well-defined bouquet with notes of marmalade, nutmeg and walnut. On the palate, medium-bodied with fine tannins and, walnut-infused and honeyed fruit and a prickly finish. A very special wine for this special time of the year.

50 wines to try before you die! - Our Forty Seventh Wine - Pittacum, Bierzo 2010

Friday 23rd December 2016

The palate is abundant sweetness with a good tannic structure, herbs, spices, oak and dark, quite pruney notes. This is a gorgeous, crowd pleaser of a red, perfect for sharing in the festive season.

50 wines to try before you die! - Our Forty sixth wine - Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos, Sauska, Hungary 2003

Wednesday 21st December 2016

Highly concentrated, with aromas of fig, honey, peach and toffee but with citrusy freshness, it remains a firm Eton Vintners favourite and a worthy treat during Christmas. Perfect with Christmas pudding, any dessert - or as a tipple on its own.

50 Wines to try before you die! - Forty Fifth wine - Pommard, Sordet 2010

Deep dark-red, intense and violent bouquet of blackcurrant and violets. Predominant astringency enhanced by marked acidity and mellowness. Full-bodied, rich, dry tannins and a velvety finish. Perfect with charcuterie, salmon, tuna, stews and poultry.
